Finals are upon us, and after a tantalising last month of the home and away campaign, a read of the tea leaves suggests a high-octane September is in store for all supporters.
August was a fitting dress rehearsal for the big stage.
On the netball courts, Shepparton Swans emerged as the unlikely winner of a three-horse race for sixth thanks to a drama-soaked round 18.
Meanwhile, the last three football rounds saw plenty of place-trading within the six, making it tricky to pick which side will hoist the flag on grand final day.
So in August, with seasons on the line, who played out of their skin?
In Friday’s edition of The News, we will elect the best GVL footballer, netballer and rising star winners of August.
This will be the last edition of the series for 2025, with finals not counted in the draw.
The criteria for nominations are based on the past month, with respective open-age Player of the Month and 21-and-under Rising Star nominees required to have played at least two games of senior football or A-grade netball throughout the period.
At the end of the season, all Player of the Month and Rising Star winners will be graded, with the victorious nominees from the selected categories to receive a mystery prize.
To be involved in the nomination process, get in touch via the Shepparton News Sport Facebook page or send an email through to sport@sheppnews.com.au
