The Kings Park inhabitants put together their third win on the trot against Tatura on Saturday, claiming a mammoth 22.19 (151) to 6.2 (38) victory as they continue their strong finish to the Goulburn Valley League season.
It was a dominant showing at Tatura Park with Seymour controlling the contest comfortably all day, not once losing any momentum as it condemned the home side to an 11th triple figure defeat this season.
The opening term was one-way traffic as Seymour kept Tatura to a solitary behind, although the Lions were a little erratic themselves in front of goal, booting 3.8 for the term to enjoy a 25-point lead at quarter-time, which felt like a let off for the Bulldogs.
There would be no such luck in the second, however, as the Lions found their range in front of goal.
While Tatura answered a Jack Murphy major through Jess Petherick, Seymour just as quickly fired another two home via Riley Mason, bringing the VFL-listed forward’s tally to four halfway through the second quarter.
The onslaught continued as the Lions put another four through the middle of the big sticks before the half-time siren, making it seven for the quarter and, while the Bulldogs managed to peg one back, the margin stood at a formidable 57 points as the two sides entered the sheds.
There was a small spark to start the second half as Samuel Hynes kicked the opening goal to ignite the Bulldogs, but it proved short lived, with Seymour peppering the goal face before Mason found goals five and six to once again extend the margin in favour of the visitors.
Star on-baller Nathan Beattie joined in on the act too for the Lions, adding his first for the afternoon, before a pair of debutants pushed the Lions into triple figures, with Jackson Mansfield adding his third and Ben McCarthy his first to end the quarter 80 points to the good.
The young Lions have at times struggled to put sides away this season, but they kept the foot flat to the floor against the Bulldogs in a final quarter procession, slamming through 7.3 — their biggest return of the contest — to stretch the lead beyond 100 points in yet another strong win to close out the season.
Mason added another three in that final term to make it nine for the afternoon and 22 from his four games for Seymour this season, in a best on ground display, while Beattie continued the fine form he has shown all year to be amongst the votes also.
VFL-listed Jack Peris added a goal in a strong performance that had him among the best alongside Dylan Cook, while co-coach Jack Murphy (three goals) rounded out the most influential.
The Lions have cemented their spot as ‘best of the rest’ and will finish seventh no matter the result in their final game of the season this weekend when they host Shepparton at Kings Park, however, they could still have an impact on the finals picture, with the Bears in a fight with Shepparton Swans for fifth place.
