Seymour has overcome a defiant Euroa outfit to record its third win of the Goulburn Valley League season, with two seven-goal quarters lifting the Lions to victory.
But initially, Euroa found the ascendancy.
Euroa led by 11 at quarter time after blazing away to 36 points, however an accurate term from Seymour in front of goal ensured that the Magpies didn’t escape with the game early.
The Magpies evidently had the scoring end in the first term, as the second quarter saw Seymour rebound, and do so in style.
Ricky Schraven kicked his second and third goals for the half in a term where the Lions punished the winless Euroa, piling on seven goals to two to shift the margin 23 points in favour of the home side.
With the Magpies at the scoring end for the third term, Seymour’s defence knuckled down and quelled Euroa’s advances for the most part, conceding 3.4 while scoring 3.1 itself to maintain a 20-point advantage heading into the last term.
Euroa’s Nate Trotter would strike first, but from then on it was all Seymour with the breeze, recording another seven-goal term to put away the plucky Pies, 21.9 (135) to 12.14 (86).
Schraven (four goals) led the scoring in a game where Seymour had seven multiple goal scorers, while Euroa’s Adam Giobbi top-scored for his side, booting three.
Seymour skipper Jack Murphy was named best on in the Anzac Day blockbuster, kicking three goals and racking up possessions at Kings Park.
The Lions sit third on the GVL table after moving to 3-1 on the season, while Euroa has slumped to 0-4 and is placed 11th.
The Magpies will be challenged by Kyabram in round five, while Seymour host another winless outfit in Tatura next Saturday.
