Shepparton South, which finished the season atop the table with 11 wins and two losses, appeared to be favourites on paper but after a qualifying final loss to its grand final opponent Mooroopna Ruby, which ended the season with 10 wins and three losses, it stacked up to be a decider that was anyone’s for the taking.
In the pair’s previous clash, Mooroopna Ruby had only got the chocolates by a mere six goals, before Shepparton South pipped Saints Diamonds in the preliminary final to schedule a rematch.
However, Mooroopna Ruby had taken confidence from its last result, and well rested from its bye week, and came out firing.
While Shepparton South had the minor premiership, Ruby demonstrated it was nothing more than a title as they stormed to a 12-goal victory, 42-30.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit was at McEwen Reserve to capture the grand final action.
