The now Kyneton-based trainer’s Station One, named in homage of the former Shepparton venue, was judged CRV’s Horse of the Year for the 2025-26 season at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre after a campaign that netted four Country Cup triumphs.
The eight-year-old son of Toronado saluted at Gunbower, Traralgon, Burrumbeet, and Stony Creek to clinch the talented stayer’s 10th cup.
Speaking to Country Racing Victoria media, there was only one way Howley could describe the accolade.
“What a ride,” Howley said.
“I think he’s run in 22 country cups. From the Woodford Cup at Warrnambool in the west, to Gunbower and Stony Creek on the other side.
“We’ve covered plenty of the state and there’s been plenty of good times. It’s been an amazing run.
“His Stony Creek win, that really showcased him. And Murtoa, two years ago, that probably launched him.
“They’re the two Cups that really stand out to me, they showcased the horse that we see at home every day.”
Lindsay Park Racing secured a third consecutive Trainer of the Year award, with the Hayes combination of JD, Will, and Ben recording 131 wins on the country circuit to take home the George Hanlon Trophy.
Rounding out the evening's honours, the Moama Bowling Club Gunbower Gold Cup was named Community Club Event of the Year, recognising another outstanding edition of the beloved volunteer-run race day that continues to draw strong support from across the region.
