Kyabram talents Jacob Cartwright, Charlie Boswood and Steph Locke, alongside Shepparton Park’s Kate Bush, have been central to the Big V’s efforts in the premier State v State bowls bonanza, and in the under-18 championship, the Kyabramites were front and centre in the Big V’s bid for glory.
Cartwright and Boswood, in tandem with Moama’s Jacob Brighton, executed a clean sweep of the boys triples format, with the former two making it back-to-back triples championships at Nationals.
Combined with strong results in the other three formats, Victoria finished atop the boys standings, and Boswood’s performance netted him the Player of the Series award.
Meanwhile, Locke was tasked with skipping the girls’ triples and fours sides, and more often than not the Wunghnu pennant bowler was dialled in on the jack.
Locke delivered a third and second-place finish respectively to fire the Big V to a runner-up finish, with the combined efforts of the Goulburn Murray juniors helping Victoria finish as overall champion.
It also left the young guns’ necks heavy with medals and their status as some of the nation’s premier rising stars reaffirmed.

But they weren’t the only GMBR rollers to taste success on the big stage.
In the Senior Sides Championship, Shepparton Park’s Kate Bush played a pivotal role in her state’s 6-1 finish to bring the Betty Collins OAM Shield back to Victoria, and on Nationals debut made it a duo of top player accolades for the GMBR cohort, named the Women’s Player of the Championship.
Still to play is Benalla product Koby Cromie and Tallygaroopna’s Mitch Sidebottom, who have been selected by Victoria to compete for the Alley Shield in Australian Sides Championships.
