The boys in navy blue have made a strong start to the campaign, installing themselves as potential premiership contenders as the midway point of the term approaches.
Craig Carley’s all-conquering outfit has successfully juggled a fairytale run in the Hahn Australia Cup - journeying to round six of the competition - alongside building up a head of steam in the league with six wins from 11 outings.
In the previous two weeks, the Suns have had to settle for a share of the points, with 2-2 draws coming against pacesetters Malvern City and in a hard-fought stalemate down at Werribee City.
The Shepparton side will have home advantage in its favour up against the visitors from Cheltenham on May 9 as the division’s second and third placed teams prepare to do battle in a major test of their respective title credentials.
Coming into the affair down at John McEwan Reserve, the Argonauts have been experiencing something of a purple patch of their own - tallying up three wins from their last five games.
That said, Bayside will be eager to respond at the first time of asking after being held to a 1-1 draw at home against Nunawading City last time out.
Essentially a six-pointer in the premiership picture, the teams will have designs on closing the gap on VPL 2 pacesetters Malvern, who boast a significant advantage at the summit.
A single point separates the Suns and the Argonauts in the league ladder, meaning this clash represents a major juncture in the campaign for both sides.
Now, Suns head coach Carley has sized up the opposition heading into what promises to be a compelling fixture on home soil.
“Obviously it's a big game coming up in the next round with Bayside Argonauts, with them currently second (in the VPL 2 ladder),” he said.
“We obviously do our homework and I've got plenty of footage from their games this season.
“What I do know is that they're a very experienced and good quality football side so it should be a game of attacking football and those are the games we want to be in.”
“We know we are back at home so when I will be on a good deck,” he said, as he previewed the eagerly-awaited contest.
“We’re look really looking forward to testing ourselves against the best teams in the competition and that's where we want to be.
“That's where we aspire to be so you know to be the best you have to be the best and Bayside have certainly been one of the standouts this year.”
