Goulburn Valley prospects picked in Bowls Victoria’s under-18 state sides for upcoming Tri-Series
Goulburn Valley’s golden generation of bowls is stepping off the mat and into state duties.
The region’s rich history of producing top talent on the greens is being furthered by the current crop of youth and a raft of GV guns are due to don the Big V in less than a month’s time.
Bowls Victoria has released its under-18 boys and girls state sides, set to contest the Tri-Series against NSW and Queensland at Club Sunbury from August 1-3.
In the boys’ side, Kyabram’s Charlie Boswood has made the grade alongside former Bomber Jacob Cartwright, who now represents Wunghnu.
They’ll suit up alongside Moama duo Jacob Brighton and Brock Keenan, with Goulburn Valley products making up half of the eight-strong squad.
On the girls’ front, Steamers pair Mackenzie Parsons and Gracie Retallick have also made the side contesting the Tri-Series.
All athletes were selected following an intra-squad trial event on June 28-29, with a state side practice day arriving this Sunday at Dandenong Club.
The Goulburn Valley representatives will hope to impress at next month’s Tri-Series in preparation for The Nationals, held from November 10-13 at Tasmania’s Devonport Country Club.
In other bowls news, a Benalla product is set to lead the line for a hotly tipped franchise for Victorian Bowls League Four.
Tyson Cromie has been named in Ocean Grove’s ‘Grovers’ squad alongside former Shepparton Golf marquees Anthony and Matt Flapper, with the latter serving as player-team manager.
“The Grovers enter our third VBL, reaching the finals on both prior occasions. Heading into VBL4, we’re hungry for more — and ready to shake things up,” Flapper said.
“Brad Pavey and Tyson Cromie are in outstanding form off the back of recent State Championship wins, while Peter Loe, one of Victoria’s most dynamic front-end players, will lay a strong foundation.
“Add in a little bit of experience with veterans Matt and Anthony Flapper and you’ve got a blend of talent and firepower that gives us a real recipe for success.”
