Sunday will bring semi-final and final bowls in the Champion of Champions event, with four men and four women in the hunt.
Shepparton Golf Bowling Club is set to host both sets of finals, with the Matheson Shield contingent away at Shepparton Park the day prior.
Tatura Bowls Club is the only side with entrants still alive in both brackets, as Dorothy Best and Jason Carter get set for a crack at the title.
Euroa’s Ken Sutcliffe will be Carter’s opponent and he recognises the quality of his competition.
“The other three are pretty handy bowlers,” Sutcliffe said.
“There’ll be two close games and either one of us on the day can beat the other.
“It’s all about who turns up on the day and does it best, but I’m happy to be there and I’ve got a chance.”
The winner of each tournament advances to a state Champion of Champions carnival — which Sutcliffe, as a two-time winner of the GVPA event, knows well.
“I’ve been there before and won it with my hand and then with a bowling arm,” Sutcliffe said.
“It would be nice to do it three times.
“I’ve been beaten by ‘Dawsy’ by just a shot or two the last couple of times, but everybody’s got a chance in the final four.”
The potential accomplishment would be a fair feather in Euroa’s cap for season 2023-24 amidst the club’s difficult season in pennant.
Tallygaroopna’s David Daws and Mooroopna’s Josh Warren meet in the other semi-final.
Meanwhile, Tatura’s Best and Hill-Top’s Dianne Downie will contest one women’s semi on Sunday morning after heat postponed matters last weekend.
The winner will play Shepparton Park’s Suzanne Tyson or Shepparton Golf’s Carla Miles in the final.
