The Goulburn Valley Croquet Association (GVCA) team consisted of Kenn Boal (Rich River) in division one, John Young (Mooroopna) in division two, John James (Rich River) in division three, and David "Doc" Ryant (Rich River) in division four.
It was lovely to see a number of spectators from GVCA clubs there to support their players.
Boal finished in fourth place in a field of croquet's elite, ahead of some very strong competition. And congratulations go to Young, James and Ryant who all won their divisions, each only losing one game in their eight-game round robins.
GVCA member Russ Smyth was seconded to NEDCA to enable them to complete a team and ran second to Young in division two, equal on games but 18 hoops behind.
The results of these four players are a credit to Boal who coached and encouraged them all. Boal has won this event eight times, a wonderful achievement.
Because of these great results, the GVCA team finished second with 454 hoops in the team’s shield event which is awarded to the team who scored the most hoops. Geelong region won the shield with 468 hoops.
It was a most successful competition which was held at Swan Hill due to the number and excellent condition of their courts, hosted by Northern District Croquet Association.
Next year is the GVCA’s turn, and they are planning a great few days at Rich River Croquet Club.
