But it was a black-and-white show reel as South kept the Reds out of the winners’ list, spurred on by a hat-trick from Declan Kinnane for their fifth win of the season.
The Reds kept proceedings in check up until the 39th minute, when Kinnane put his first through the net, followed by two more closing in on the final whistle.
Isaac Brooker was the other scorer for the third-placed Southerners, who move on to Spring Gully in round eight, while Shepparton’s quest for its first points continues against Eaglehawk.
Meanwhile, status of competition pacesetter still belongs to Tatura.
Xavier Black took his goal tally to 15 with his second four-piece of the season, the main instigator in the Ibises 6-1 win over Strathdale.
That result keeps Tatura firmly embedded at the top of the league, but trailed ever-presently by a rampant Shepparton United.
The reigning champion launched 10 goals past Epsom away from home, split evenly with five in each half as Marcus Thomas (three goals) and Rumesh Bartaula (two) did the damage.
Spring Gully kept its place in the top four with a 5-0 win over Golden City, while Eaglehawk shook off a determined La Trobe University 4-1.
Meanwhile, the mission to clinch top spot in the League 1 women’s competition continued with Shepparton United keeping the pressure on current leader Spring Gully.
The Blues were 3-0 winners over Kyneton to keep within two points of the league leader, while Shepparton South flexed its muscle with a 5-0 defeat of Colts United on the back of a hat-trick to the in-form Samantha Comline.
At Castlemaine, Tatura will rue the loss of a point after conceding a 90th-minute winner against Castlemaine-Goldfields, the combine coming away with a 1-0 heartbreaker.
