Back at home for the first time this season, Shepparton Eagles gave Wodonga Wombats a good old-fashioned whooping on Sunday in round five of the Goulburn Murray Storm Premiership.
The Eagles, who snared the 2024 premiership in their inaugural season, showed why they’re still the competition’s top dogs with a 60-8 beat down at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
A string of boys in orange crossed the line, with the Eagles dominating the try count 11-2 as Fili Fili, Penjopu Tunumafono and Potaua Tawhi all doubled up on the day.
Sunday’s rollicking elevates the Eagles into third, with 5-0 Tumbarumba proving the team to beat this season.
On the women’s league tag front, the female Eagles ground out their fifth straight win to shoot to the ladder’s top as Deborah Fili put on a clinic against the Wombats.
Fili boasted a hat-trick of tries and conversions during the 26-10 victory, holding both Eagles sides in good stead heading into the bye before a bout with Benalla Wolfpack.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit roamed the touch lines to snap the Eagles’ men in action.
