United goaler Abby Gilmore set the Demons up for an early 6-2 lead, before the Lions would reply with three consecutive goals to tighten the gap.
Exchanging blows at either end of the court, the Demons and Lions were tied at 11 at quarter-time, before Seymour edged ahead by two goals at the main break.
Roaring out of the halftime huddle, the Lions came out to prove there is only one queen of the GVL jungle, as the hunt for finals tightens up.
With United and Seymour battling for a lower-rung of the top six, this fixture was an effective eight-point swing on the table, and it was a game last year’s preliminary finalists would not let slip.
The lead grew to as many as eight goals for Seymour in the third term before a Sophie Garner surge in the final minute created momentum for the Demons, although it was quickly relinquished after the three-quarter-time break, a pause in play timely for Seymour to reset and go on the attack again, scoring the first four goals unanswered in the the fourth quarter.
A nine-goal advantage was enough to maintain through the final 15 minutes of action, with the Lions securing a 41-48 victory.

The Eagles pipped Tatura at the post in a one-goal thriller, with the Eagles now just percentage outside the finals equation after defeating Shepparton last week.
The Bears struggled yet again in round 10 with Kim Borger unavailable, suffering a mammoth 83-35 defeat to ladder-leaders Euroa, while Benalla got on the board for its first win of the season, defeating Kyabram by 41 goals.
Echuca defeated Shepparton Swans by 29 and Mooroopna defeated Rochester 46 goals in the round’s other results.
