It was a grand old occasion in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association at the weekend.

Five long months of hard work and graft for the association’s young stars culminated in junior grand finals, with Strikers Blue and Mooroopna saluting in the respective under-15 and under-12 deciders.
The morning kicked off with a goal-crazy epic, as Mooroopna took on Goulburn Valley Grammar School for all the marbles.
Quite remarkably, the last meeting between these two sides saw 13 goals hit the back of the net as GVGS snared an 8-5 result.
This time around, the score was identical - but the victor? Totally different.
Mooroopna flipped the script in the grand final, landing an 8-5 triumph as Bharpur Singh (four goals), Pargunn Kaur (three) and Navrajdeep Singh Mandahar (one) all contributed to the Cats’ success.
For GVGS, Louis Wyatt netted a hat-trick while Will Higgins doubled up in defeat.
Though the under-15 big dance may not have produced the same output of goals, the nature of the game was no less thrilling.

GVGS Blue entered as the favourite having dropped just one game all season, but Strikers Blue had their sticks greased and teeth gritted knowing it would take a mighty effort to dethrone the minor premier.
When all was said and done, Strikers took the battle of the Blues 3-2.
Khushmann Sandhu, Declan Collins and Sadie Harrap’s strikes lifted Strikers to the title, cancelling out Finnian McLeod’s double for GVGS.
It caps another bumper year for the GVHA juniors - but the season is far from over on the senior frontier.
A-grade men’s action had Shepparton Youth Club and Echuca-Moama square off in the semi final, with the border side prevailing 4-1 thanks to goals from Regan More, Troy Kenny, Ashley Phipps and Cameron Kenley.
Axel Irwin was SYC’s goalscorer in the loss.
Echuca-Moama will now meet Strikers in Saturday’s grand final, while the B-grade decider will be contested between SYC and Strikers after both sides progressed through their semi-finals 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.
Lastly, SYC has secured passage to the women’s grand final after defeating Strikers 3-0, supplemented by goals from Kim Starkey, Tayah Irwin and Charlotte Stevens.
The Scorchers take on Echuca-Moama Green on Saturday after it beat Echuca-Moama White 6-3 in the semis.
