The penultimate round served up plenty of appetising clashes, but Xavier McBain decided he’d reserve the entire main course for himself when Strikers played away to Bendigo Senjuns on Sunday.
McBain slammed home 11 goals on his own as Strikers dismantled the Senjuns 12-1, rocketing himself to the top of the scoring charts with 18.
For perspective, the next best scorer in the league has six.
Adrian Abrahams slotted the Strikers’ other goal during the landslide win, which takes the Shepparton-based side to second on the ladder.
Later that day, Echuca-Moama secured a handy scalp over Eaglehawk by order of a 3-2 result, as William Kerr, Adrian Rose and Cameron Kenley each scored for the River Rats.
In the round’s other RHL fixture, Shepparton Youth Club lost out to Strathdale 4-3 with Matthew Irwin (two goals) and Nathan Greig on target during the Scorchers’ loss.
Back in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association women’s ranks, SYC prevailed 3-0 over Echuca-Moama White thanks to strikes from Tayah Irwin, Ineke Walsh and Hunnardeep Sandhu.
Elsewhere, Jess Crisp’s brace helped Echuca-Moama Green to a 4-2 triumph against Euroa.
B-grade men’s action had SYC trump Mooroopna 3-0 while Echuca-Moama exacted a 2-0 victory over Strikers.
Finally, Mooroopna fell 3-0 to La Trobe University in Women’s Vic League Two, meaning the Cats will need to pick up form in the final two rounds to return to the top four bracket.
