Dad Terence, affectionately known to teammates as “Barge”, took to the field alongside his boy in what proved to be a landmark occasion down at Moon Oval as their side earned all four points on the road.
Clearly a chip off the old block, young Liam is following in the footsteps of his legendary father in donning the maroon and gold, having previously featured in the Goulburn Murray Junior League during his fledgling years.
In the case of Terence, he donned the No. 57 during the away trip, while Liam wore the No. 58 - with those guernseys likely to become family heirlooms in the years to come.
Emerging victorious in dramatic fashion against the Tigers, the one-point win came as the Bears rallied back from being 11 points down at half-time, producing a ruthless third-quarter showing to remain in the contest.
A tight contest played out in Rochester, starting with a pretty even opening quarter, before the home side notched two goals without reply heading into the half-time break.
In a resilient fightback following the break, the resurgent side issued the perfect response as Jayden Gagliardi kicked two goals either side of a strike from Zac Bathman to take a slender advantage into the last period.
Having reversed the scoreline heading into what promised to be a final quarter dogfight, Shepparton would ultimately hang onto its lead at the death.

Later, the Bears honoured the family pairing after what proved to be a wholesome day down at Moon Oval after the club’s Reserves made the 65km trip for the away fixture.
“What a milestone,” a club representative said on social media.
“Our club legend and life member Terence “Barge” Tuohey and son Liam playing together in the Reserves game at Rochester.“
Well-wishers spoke excitedly as they discussed the unique set of circumstances which saw a father-son duo represent the Reserves side.
“Well done Barge, geez Liam has shot up. New Ruck and rover combo?“ Mark Morrison said, commenting.
“Excellent achievement, for both. Another up and coming legend of the club, said Glenn Harrap also.
“Great memories, [I] played in a GF with my boy it will never leave you. Congrats,” Les Cohen added.
Meanwhile, the Goulburn Valley League marked this landmark moment as Liam continues to impress in terms of his development, while looking to emulate the achievements of father Terence.
“This is what country football is all about,” a representative wrote on social media.
“This was all about a father and son moment. And the boys got home by one point as well. Congratulations!”
