With more than 1000 riders ready to kick it and rip it at the 2026 BMX National Championships in Shepparton, the facilities hosting the event have earned a gold star in the Victorian Sport Awards.
The BMX Multi-Use Pavilion has been named one of four finalists in the Local Government Initiative Category following a redevelopment that saw the state-of-the-art two-storey facility erected at the Packham St complex.
The award recognises a Local Government Authority which has made a significant contribution to sport through program and facility development.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali noted the collaboration between user groups and community passion has left a “lasting legacy”.
“This is a fantastic recognition of the passion and hard work that went into creating a facility the whole community can be proud of,” Sali said.
“The project was a great collaboration with the Shepparton BMX and Cycling Clubs leaving a lasting legacy for the community and visitors for decades to come.
“Thanks also to the local contractors who helped bring the project to life, including Moretto Building Pty Ltd, Watters Electrical Pty Ltd and Preston’s Turf and Garden.”
The ribbon was cut on the project in August last year and his since hosted a range of events that includes the 2025 BMX National Series and culminates in the hosting of this week’s National Championship between April 16-18, which will see some of Australia’s best two-wheeled talent tear across the track.
Victorian Sport Awards winners will be announced on May 13.
