Ryan Cobain will be joining a talented Cats list, with the 2018 Wangaratta Rovers club best-and-fairest one of a host of marquee players the Cats have signed.
Angus Robertson is also returning to the club after recently playing for Claremont in Western Australia Football League.
He will line-up alongside his brothers Tim, Cameron, Nick and William, as well as cousins Callum and Jeremy Robertson.
The Cats are also welcoming back former Finley best-and-fairest winner Tim McKenzie.
Returning senior coach Tom Doyle said he was keen to see how his side would fare with the big signings.
‘‘We have lost a couple of younger blokes who are off to uni this year, but to pick up a couple of older blokes should help us out,” Doyle said.
‘‘We’re hoping to be quite competitive this year and are still talking to a few players, so hopefully we can get some over the line.’’
The Cats were preparing for a quick climb up the ladder in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic struck and had footy across the region called off.
Doyle said the cancellation of the Murray Football League last year had his players feeling ‘‘robbed’’.
‘‘We had a full pre-season and were let down after it was announced we wouldn’t be playing,’’ Doyle said.
‘‘We are raring to go now and have a big season ahead.
‘‘Training also saw a new face in Jock Adamson join us. He moved to town recently and is working on a farm in the area, so hopefully he’ll be a handy addition.
‘‘I’m hoping to be a non-playing coach, and with Tim McKenzie and Lachie Hawkins in the ruck, we should be right without me having to pull on the boots.
‘‘It will depend on whether I need to fill key positions or not.
‘‘Also, our young players are coming through and I don’t want to get in the way of their development.’’
