East Shepparton soars to national BPL Cup finals

East Shepparton will represent Goulburn Valley Bowls Division on the national stage after winning through to the finals of the Bowls Premier League Cup.

The quartet of Daniel Nichols, Stacey Collier, Brent Reiner and Geoff Beattie performed well enough at the state finals event at the Dandenong Club on Sunday to book their spot in the last stage of the tournament.

“It's a pretty good achievement,” Nichols said.

“Five of the regional finalists played off in the round-robin and we made the top three, so we're off to the national finals.

“If Brent wasn't there we wouldn't have stood a chance, he really saved us in the first few games and helped us make the most of our powerplays.”

The BPL Cup finals will be held alongside the BPL at Moama next month, although usually a trip up north is on the cards for the Victorian winners of the qualifying event.

“We were really looking forward to our all-expenses paid trip to Queensland,” Nichols said.

“Brent and Geoff actually live in Echuca, so when they found out it was in Moama they (realised they weren't going far).”
