The Eagles and the Lakers will be smarting from losses the previous week and will be at each other’s throats from the off, making for a spectacle predicted to produce plenty of thrills and spills.
Putting last Saturday’s defeat to Numurkah behind him, Eagles captain Corey Hickford is welcoming the Lakers challenge — but acknowledges there is a threat lying in waiti for his side at Katandra Recreation Reserve.
“It was a tough loss last week, we had a couple of players missing, but there are no excuses,” he said.
“Nagambie have a couple of very good players in both the Nolans.
“Luke is a gun, he can do what he wants on his day and Barney’s (Mark) stats speak for themselves.”
If Katandra hopes to dethrone current Haisman crown-holder Numurkah, it must string together consistent performances across the final three rounds to ensure it stays within striking distance of the ladder-leader.
But taking it one step at a time, a straight up and down approach will likely suit the Eagles at home tomorrow according to Hickford.
“If we bowl first, we will look to strike early and roll them cheaply,” he said.
“If we bat, we will look to get through to drinks at only one or two down and set up a good platform so we can bat all day.
“We are always looking to improve and turn those 30s and 40s into 80s, 90s and 100s.”
On the other hand, a win for Nagambie would prove immense in cementing its spot in the top six — and could go a long way in terms of a confidence boost with vital fixtures fast approaching.
