“There is going to be more police, more lights, and more sirens in the Goulburn Valley,” Superintendent Brett Kahan said.
“We’re going to pull over anything that moves — and I make no apologies for that.”
Supt Kahan’s comments come after a horror week that saw two vehicles allegedly drive at speeds of about 200km/h in Wyndham St, near the skate park, on July 3.
One of the vehicles later crashed on the Goulburn Valley Hwy at Kialla.
Three drink drivers more than three times the limit were also caught on Sunday night, while a police chase through northern Victoria and southern NSW on Wednesday ended in the arrest of three people.
Supt Kahan said police had “had enough” of bad behaviour on roads.
He is concerned that “someone is going to die soon” if the bad driving behaviour continues.
“We will do everything we can to stop it.”
Supt Kahan said local police would be conducting planned road policing operations at peak times.
He said police had concerns about bad behaviour in parts of north and south Shepparton on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights where “people chose to use roads as nothing more than a drag strip”.
“We are hearing the public (complaints about it) loud and clear.
Supt Kahan vowed to put a stop to hoon behaviour.
“We will make concerted efforts to target people who use roads for crime,” he said.
“We will absolutely be targeting them.”
Supt Kahan said if people wanted to report hoon behaviour as it was occurring, they should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
He also urged the public to help call-out people on bad driving behaviour.
“If your mates and your family choose to make bad choices, talk them out of it,” Supt Kahan said.
