Limited public transport leads to L-plater driving unsupervised, court told

Limited public transport in Cobram led to an L-plater driving without a supervisor, a court has heard.

Badjo Majumvanu, 26, of Cobram, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to being a learner driver and driving without a supervising driver, not displaying L-plates and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Bird said Majumvanu was driving without a supervising driver and without L-plates in an unregistered red Suburu, west on the Murray Valley Hwy on November 30, 2023.

Majumvanu told police he was waiting for his licence to come in the mail and “I couldn’t find someone to sit with me”, the court heard.

The person in the passenger seat held a disqualified P2 licence and the car’s registration expired on December 16, 2022, Sen Constable Bird said.

John McNamara said his client was driving because there was no food in the house and there was no public transport in Cobram.

Mujumvanu was now on P-plates and hadn’t committed any offences since, Mr McNamara said.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski fined Majumvanu $800 without conviction.
