Thanks to a generous donation of cheese and butter dairy staples — often difficult to source due to their short shelf life — from Fonterra, locals receiving food relief during the festive season will get a nice surprise.
“We are thrilled to be receiving this donation,” Shepparton Foodshare executive officer Dee Healey said.
“Even though it is an important dairy staple, it’s not something that we generally have in our food boxes for local people due to its short shelf-life.”
Fonterra Oceania produces popular dairy brands across Australia, New Zealand and other countries around the world.
It sources milk from Australian farmers for its manufacturing facilities across Victoria and Tasmania, including its local site in Stanhope.
The Fonterra Stanhope team produces a wide variety of cheeses, including cheddar, parmesan, ricotta and romano.
But what’s more, it has also collected other much needed staple items to donate to Shepparton Foodshare, including flour, pasta, cereals and tinned foods.
“Generous food donations such as this help keep our food boxes full of items that recipients need to build a nutritious meal around,” Ms Healey said.
Food is distributed free to registered emergency relief agencies, community services, schools, meals programs, faith organisations, neighbourhood houses and more, so that they may support individuals, families, children, people experiencing homelessness and people from our multicultural community.
Local businesses interested in establishing regular food or other essential item donations, such as personal hygiene products and cleaning projects, are urged to contact Shepparton Foodshare.
Anyone wanting to conduct a food drive on behalf of Shepparton Foodshare at workplaces, clubs, services or schools can email kate@sheppartonfoodshare.org.au to register interest or find out more.
