UPDATE, 11.30AM: A small number of Shepparton homes and businesses will be without water for much of Tuesday, October 20, after a water main burst.
A Goulburn Valley Water spokesperson said the trunk water main at the intersection of Archer St and Poplar Ave burst at about 8am.
“To isolate the section of main a small number of customers will be impacted,” the spokesperson said.
“This is mostly contained to a small section of Poplar Avenue and does include several businesses.”
The spokesperson said Goulburn Valley Water crews were working to repair the main and reinstate supply to customers, but that due to the location of the water main, the repair was complex and would “take most of the day to reinstate”.
The spokesperson said mater mains burst on occasions due to several factors - generally due to ground movements.
“With the recent warmer weather this has likely caused some minor ground movement around the pipe causing it to burst,” the spokesperson said.
The water has spilled on to the road from the burst water main.
