Telstra has forewarned that on two of the five days of work planned, the mobile services outage could last eight hours.
A four-hour outage is planned for one of the other days, with no specific outage prediction provided for the others.
Telstra has said landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.
It has advised customers to switch on Wi-Fi Calling, which should enable them to continue to make calls and send texts during the disruption period.
This is a free setting on most popular mobile phones and allows your mobile to make and receive mobile calls while connected to wi-fi.
Business owners are encouraged to talk to their bank about connecting their EFTPOS terminals to their NBN or wi-fi connection to prevent delays in processing transactions.
Telstra regional engagement manager for NSW Riverina David Saunderson said the upgrade was designed to bring a better 4G and 5G user experience to the local community.
It will improve the mobile site’s capacity, meaning faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion.
“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” Mr Saunderson said.
“While disruption is required while the upgrade is under way, we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”
The site will need to be switched off during the following periods:
• Wednesday, September 16, 7am to 5pm (eight-hour outage)
• From 7am Thursday, September 17, to 5pm Friday, September 19.
• Saturday, September 20, 7am to 5pm (eight-hour outage).
• Sunday, September 21, 7am to 11am (four-hour outage).
