In celebration of Mother’s Day, jewellery designer and experienced teacher Sue Plumb will lead a workshop, as part of her exhibition in the gallery shop.
Participants will use traditional jewellery making tools and techniques to craft a simple pendant necklace from a range of materials and metals, including silver.
“You will have an opportunity to stamp a message to yourself or someone close to your heart for this special day,” Sue said.
“Maybe it is about your children, your mother, mothering, or just love.”
The workshop will be held from 10am to 1pm, on Saturday, May 10, in the Patricia Gardner Studio. All materials will be provided. The cost is $90 for members or $100 for non-members.
On Saturday, May 17, you can take part in ‘Flowers in Oils’, a workshop with Strathbogie-based artist Anna Mackrell.
Join Anna for a workshop exploring her practice and more specifically her techniques and approach to painting flowers with oils.
Coinciding with her exhibition in the Simpson Gallery, this workshop will cover both charcoal and painting mediums, reflective of Anna’s prolific body of work.
The workshop will be held from 11am to 3pm in the Patricia Gardner Studio.
All materials, including oil paints and canvases, will be provided. The cost is $110 for members or $120 for non-members.
If you have ever wanted to learn how to make mosaics, a fun series of workshops led by experienced artist Kate van Nooten will get you started.
The series will begin with an introduction to mosaic tools, materials, process and design, before selecting a piece of pre-cut cement-sheet as a base.
Participants will choose a colour scheme to begin the mosaic process.
Once completed and the grout solidified, paint is added to the surrounds of the piece.
Kate began making mosaics in 2004, joining a team working alongside Melbourne sculptor Deborah Halpern, which assisted with the restoration of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Angel sculpture at Birrarung Marr.
Kate has since created many public works around Surf Coast Shire and Bellarine Peninsula.
Kate’s own work is inspired by community and her reverence for nature.
Mosaics with Kate van Nooten takes place on May 14 and May 21 in the Patricia Gardner Studio. The cost is $140 for non members or $150 for members.
