GV Health has announced it is in the process of appointing consultants to complete detailed design work for a new Integrated Cancer Centre at Shepparton hospital.
The centre will be developed in line with the Shepparton hospital masterplan, ensuring the new facility integrates seamlessly with existing services and future growth.
Following completion of the design phase, construction of stage one of the Integrated Cancer Centre is expected to start from November next year, supported by $30 million in funding from the Federal Government.
Design work will also be undertaken for stage two of the centre.
While this stage is not yet funded, it is estimated to cost about $90 million.
GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said the new centre was a vital investment in the region’s cancer care capacity.
“Stage one of the Integrated Cancer Centre will deliver much-needed additional space, easing pressure on both patients and staff,” Mr Sharp said.
“However, services will be split across two separate locations at Shepparton hospital, and radiation therapy will remain off-site at GenesisCare in the Shepparton CBD.
“Our vision is to bring all cancer services together under one roof, just as other regional public health services in Victoria have done.
“While stage one won’t deliver that outcome just yet, completing the design work for stage two means we’ll be ready to deliver as soon as full funding is secured.”
GV Health will continue to work closely with government and community stakeholders to ensure access to comprehensive cancer care for the Goulburn Valley region.
