Marcus Milne of Katunga Primary School was the winner out of four students in the Years 3 and 4 section, while Edith Bourchier from Strathmerton Primary School was runner-up.
Meanwhile, Flynn Cleary from Strathmerton Primary School won the Years 5 and 6 section, with Isabella Berry from Katunga Primary School the runner-up.
Years 3 and 4 students spoke on the subject, ‘Describe their ideas for a invention and how it could be used’.
Six students in Years 5 and 6 were asked to present on the prompt, ‘The impact of fast-moving technology in our daily lives. Is it moving too fast for us?’
Some surprising thoughts and interesting comments were made on both topics.
Children in Years 5 and 6 also were presented with the question, ‘Do you think banning social media access to children under-14 will achieve a safer environment for youth?’
They had 10 minutes to consider the question before replying with a one-minute answer.
Their replies to this again were interesting and thought-provoking.
Strathmerton Lions Club participates annually in the public speaking program, which offers children the opportunity to gain experience in speaking to a large audience and to promote their confidence in doing so.
The event this year was once again well attended and very successful.
