The races started early in the morning so the dogs could compete without overheating.
The early starts were accompanied by hot coffee, fresh donuts and plenty of enthusiasm.
Over 200 hundred dogs and their owners attended from as far away as Western Australia, with a vast array of breeds on show such as Siberian huskies and Alaskan malamutes as well as Dalmatians, German shorthaired pointers, golden retrievers and crossbreeds.
NVSDC president Penny Tucker said that although the weekend was muddy and cold, “it was really good”.
“It’s great to see different breeds coming into the sport,” she said.
Ms Tucker praised the sled dog community for how open and supportive it was.
“The social aspect is great, we’re all like-minded,” she said.
