Remain comfortable year-round will new discounted ceiling installation

From Tuesday, April 14 Victorians living in social housing units are eligible for discounted ceiling insulation under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program.

On average, the discount will squash 30 to 50 per cent of total costs depending on home size – helping residents save around $418 a year on energy bills.

Social housing residents will be among the first to benefit as the energy efficiency in social housing program (EESHP) will be eligible in the first stage.

The program will then be expanded to all eligible Victorian homes with no or low ceiling insulation from Thursday, October 1.

Victorian Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing says this program has already benefited over 5000 homes across Victoria and allows residents to remain comfortable all year-round.

“The Energy Efficiency Social Housing Program has delivered over 25,000 upgrades, with the current phase electrifying over 5000 homes, helping renters save $1000 a year and cut emissions,” Ms Shing said.

Mandatory electrical safety checks, installer assessments and approved product rules will be completed across all upgrades to ensure high-quality instillation.
