The future is in safe hands, with a host of talented local students excelling at a recent public speaking competition.

The Regional Final of the Lions District 201V6 Junior Public Speaking Competition drew at least 120 students and audience members from across Moira Shire, including from Cobram, Barooga, Tocumwal and Tungamah among others.
St Joseph’s Primary School’s Liam Mustica impressed the panel of judges, taking home first place in the Year 3/4 contest, followed by Farley Simmons from Yarrawonga.
In the Year 5/6 contest, Barooga Public School’s Harper Paroissien amazed judges, claiming first place, while Isabella Berry from Katunga Primary School was runner-up.

Cobram Lions Club president Janet Austin congratulated everyone who participated.
“We wish Liam from Cobram and Harper from Barooga every success at the District 201V6 Final in Corowa on August 31,” Mrs Austin said.
“It’s wonderful to have students from Cobram and Barooga schools being represented in the District Final.”
At the event, hosted by the Yarrawonga Lions Club on Sunday, August 10, students responded to one of two topics.
Students in Year 3/4 were given three minutes to speak on the subject of ‘creative invention’, explaining their idea for a new and important invention.
Meanwhile, Year 5/6 students had four minutes to respond to the subject ‘technology’, discussing their thoughts on the impacts of the rapid pace of technological change.
