The contract to supply civil works and earthworks to the grounds will include the removal and replacement of turf surface, goal posts, an irrigation system and fencing as well as the installation of new stormwater drainage.
According to an officers’ report for April’s ordinary Greater Shepparton City Council meeting, the project was provided a 2018/19 budget allocation of $360000.
This was based on the engineering estimate prepared by the design consultant and assumed the irrigation infrastructure and the cricket pitch would be delivered outside the scope of the contract.
Councillors accepted the tender of Shepparton-based construction company Jarvis Delahey Contractors with the budget provision amended to about $594000, GST exclusive.
The key cost changes include irrigation works costed at $99000 and the cricket pitch at $50000 as well as $69000 from changes in the rates to those first estimated for ‘‘growing medium and tree protection’’, according to the report.
In addition, the fill material required to offset the borrow pit works was originally intended to be sourced from the council’s existing stockpile at its Doyle’s Road Complex. However, that material is no longer available and material is to be sourced from a borrow pit at the Kialla Park Recreation Reserve site, the report said.
After the meeting, Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said it was important for all sporting grounds in the region to be maintained to ensure they were fit for purpose.
‘‘It’s a matter of really maintaining and also ensuring that we do have the facilities to the level of standard for the community members and participants using it,’’ she said.
Cr O’Keeffe said the works planned were necessary to ensure the main oval was returned to a high standard.
Council representatives are meeting with the contractors on Monday, April 29, to determine a start date.
The redevelopment will start in early May.
