Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean last week officially requested council staff bring a report to council.
Prompted by community concerns raised with her and others she asked that it include an explanation of the issues and causes, including the possible impact of additional users/properties in the future.
Cr Cornwell McKean also asked that the report detail the number and types of complaints received in the last financial year, steps for improvement taken so far and any planned or potential future options for improvement and their estimated cost.
“The water pressure issue has been raised at a number of community forums I have attended, and my response to date has been ‘I’m not an engineer, but I hear you’,” the Mayor said.
“But that’s just not good enough any more.
‘We’ve been hearing concerns about water pressure for quite a while now, and it came up again in discussion about the recent DA (for the $15 million Burma Rd housing development in Tocumwal).
“We need to demonstrate to the community that it is on our radar, and as a councillor I need to know what has been done so far and what more can be done.”
Cr Cornwell McKean said the water pressure issue is not exclusive to Tocumwal, but it is up to council to discover the cause and try and address it.
“In the past we probably have not been very good at defining the problem, we just go ahead and fix it.
“We have to think about the future.
“The problems experienced depend on which area you’re in. From my understanding it’s all reliant on gravity.
“Some people have no trouble getting under the shower at all, but for those who live up a hill a little it’s another story.”
The report is expected to be tabled at the October Berrigan Shire Council meeting.
