The league will be running a "Mo Cup" premiership challenge, as a way to help raise funds for men's health via leading charity Movember.
“The inaugural GOTAFE GVL Mo Cup Premiership is going to be a fun way to raise awareness for a vital cause,” league operations manager Josephine Spencer said.
“It’s also a great way to get players, coaches, committee, trainers, volunteers and more involved.
“At the end of the month, the team that has raised the most funds will take out the inaugural GOTAFE GVL Premiership Mo Cup.”
League chairman David Roff and board member Brett Stevens are leading the charge, and hoping all clubs in the league will join in.
“We’re putting the challenge out to everyone at each of our member clubs, and across the community, to join us in the inaugural (challenge),” Roff said.
“We are encouraging people to sign up as a Mo Bro or Mo Sister, join their team and help raise vital funds and awareness of men's health.”
Mooroopna has already appointed its ambassadors, with Ben Hicks and Matt Deane turning their club into the Mo-roopna Cats for the month.
● Movember sees men across Australia “Grow a Mo to save a Bro”. Supported by Mo Sisters, the fundraising effort during November helps raise vital funds for mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Research conducted by Movember earlier this year showed some worrying signs around the state of men’s mental health. It showed 23 per cent of men said their mental health had worsened in the first six weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, with 30 per cent noting increased feelings of loneliness.
Additionally, calls to Lifeline increased by 25 per cent when physical distancing kicked in and in Victoria, in particular, there has been an increase in self-harm indicators that may result in higher rates of suicide in the future.
