Locals seemed to agree, with dozens heading to Shepparton Oporto to get their hands on the free food on offer in celebration of Dia de Portugal on Wednesday, June 10.
Oporto Shepparton gave away free Portuguese Flame Grilled Quarter Chicken and Chips to the first 67 Flame Rewards loyalty members from noon.
The store also had $5 Bondi Burgers on offer all day.
The Shepparton Oporto franchise owner Bishoy Soliman said the free and discounted items were a way to honour Portugal Day while getting more involved with the community.
“It's just our way of giving back to the community and saying thank you to our customers,” he said.
“It gives the customers an opportunity to try our Portuguese vibrant flavours if they haven't had the chance to.”
Having opened the store in Shepparton about a year ago, Mr Soliman said it was growing slowly but surely.
“We’re just hoping to keep putting the brand out there,” he said.
With stores involved across the country, Oporto gave out around 15,000 free meals to loyalty members nationwide.
