With a night made to captivate, exhilarate and at times even scare, the internationally renowned magician is bringing his new show, Deception, back to where it all began, regional towns.
Beginning as a teenager, Cosentino travelled across Victoria for years before hitting the big time on national television — even performing in Shepparton on several occasions.
He said his first television special turned heads at the network, bringing in impressive numbers in regional areas.
“I spent 15 years travelling around doing schools and country theatres and I guess those people, maybe they must have remembered me and tuned in,” he said with a laugh.
“It shows you that all that hard work that you did, that grassroots work, to see the audience give it back was a wonderful thing and that’s the same now.
“I’d been doing metro shows for almost nine years and I thought, no, these people don’t get to see the show, let’s bring it to them — we started touring regional again in 2019.”
The 90-minute show features the four pillars of what Cosentino describes as a hit show: death-defying escapes, illusions, street magic-style performances and sleight-of-hand tricks.
All tied together with the human element of stories and comedy, accentuated by bespoke lighting and costumes.
Cosentino said the show was made for all ages.
“There’s something in the show for everybody — obviously if you love magic, if you love dance, theatre or perhaps a bit of comedy, it’s all mixed in there and I really try hard to do that,” he said.
“My first love, my first passion, is performance and being in front of a live audience, having that feedback and seeing their faces — there’s nothing like it.
“That’s the same reason why people go to a sporting match because there’s a certain energy, there’s an ambiance that goes on and you can’t replace that.’’
The performance is on at Riverlinks Eastbank Centre in Shepparton on Wednesday, April 27, at 7.30pm. Tickets are selling fast and are available at https://riverlinksvenues.online.red61.com.au/event/829:1753/829:2473/
