New shared path from racing club to Benalla CBD funded

A new shared path for cyclists and pedestrians from Benalla Racing Club to the town’s CBD will be funded by the state government.

The new path will run for 1.3 km alongside the Midland Hwy following a $102,500 funding boost from the state government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program to Benalla Rural City Council.

The funding will kick-start the work to build the new path, which will provide a safer alternative for pedestrians and cyclists to access the racing club as well as linking locals to the train station and other key destinations.

Planning for the project was completed earlier this year, with delivery for the project to get under way later this year.

State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the government was investing $102,500 of the $157,500 project, with contributions from Benalla Rural City Council and Benalla Racing Club.

“This new shared path linking Benalla’s town centre to the racing club is just one of a range of transport projects with a high local impact we’re supporting across regional Victoria” Ms Symes said.

“By investing in this new shared user path, it will mean better connections for locals — safely getting them where they need to, when they need to go.”

This initiative has been funded under the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, which supports small-scale transport initiatives and innovative solutions across regional Victoria and outer metropolitan Melbourne.
