GV Community Energy is one of the successful applicants in the Victorian Government’s Community Electrification Engagement Program, which is helping regional communities better understand the benefits of switching to electric appliances and the wide range of incentives now available.
The group will use the $110,000 in funding to run a localised energy campaign, delivering information and support through community events, clubs and individual advice sessions to help households replace gas appliances with cleaner, electric alternatives.
As part of its broader push towards cleaner and more affordable energy, the government introduced new rules on January 1, 2024, preventing new homes that require a planning permit from connecting to mains gas.
The change is part of Victoria’s Gas Substitution Roadmap, which outlines a gradual transition towards all-electric homes, improved energy efficiency and reduced household bills.
Projects funded under the CEEP will also raise awareness of programs such as the SEC Electric Home Planner, the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program and Solar Victoria rebates — all of which aim to make the energy switch more affordable and accessible.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said GV Community Energy was well placed to deliver a locally led campaign that met the unique needs of households across the region.
“This program will give locals the information and help they need to switch to efficient and electric appliances and save money on their energy bills,” she said.
“This program will educate households on the benefits of replacing gas appliances and help explain the numerous Victorian Government discounts and programs available so that households can maximise their benefits.”
The program will roll out over the next financial year, giving residents time to learn about their options and understand what support is available.
