State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has slammed the Victorian Government for failing to fully fix Echuca Rd and leaving dangerous potholes unrepaired.
Ms Lovell was recently contacted by a constituent who drives along Echuca Rd from Mooroopna every day and reported that the road surface near the Mooroopna-Lancaster Rd intersection at Coomboona was getting worse, with crumbling edges and dangerous potholes growing larger by the day.
There are paint markings around the potholes waiting for repair that have worn off and been repainted three times in the past 18 months, but repairs have still not been completed.
A sign has been erected by someone who lives nearby.
One neighbour in the area has even resorted to putting a sign beside the road voicing their opinions about the road.
Ms Lovell spoke in parliament to slam the Victorian Government for the lengthy delay, and called on Roads and Road Safety Minister Ros Spence to instruct Regional Roads Victoria to immediately fix the dangerous potholes on the Echuca Rd near the Lancaster turn-off.
“Echuca Rd has massive potholes that Labor hasn’t repaired for over a year, and road users have even installed their own warning signs, to alert other drivers to the dangerous road conditions,” Ms Lovell said.
“The minister for roads must invest in the regional road network and repair Echuca Rd immediately.”
The government allocated $1 billion for regional road maintenance in the 2026-27 Victorian Budget; however, this is funding allocated every year in the budget.
