For the third time, the winery’s hotel has been recognised as one of the state’s top-performing accommodations, contending with names in the big smoke.
Mitchelton Hotel was one of the only regional accommodations to receive an accolade at this year’s Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence, with the Nagambie-based establishment taking home Boutique Style Accommodation of the Year.
The hotel’s manager, Tom Kenny, said it was the faces behind the picturesque space that really made it stand out.
“The team puts a lot of hard work into every day,” Mr Kenny said.
“We’re very luck to have a stable team here, it makes it a lot easier to exceed expectations.
“We pride ourselves on service, and primarily we want our guests to leave the property saying, ‘oh my god, the service is amazing’, and most of the guests do, which is fantastic.”
Set beside the flowing Goulburn River, and among gum trees and greenery, the accommodation offers a serene retreat to guests, often catering for weddings and corporate events.
“(The hotel is) unique because we’re only 90 minutes from Melbourne, and you get off the highway, and you feel like you’re in another world. It’s a beautiful oasis,” Mr Kenny said.
“I think there’s something for everyone here.”
While the hotel’s beauty speaks for itself, the award is set to have a ripple effect, putting areas surrounding the winery on the state’s map of must-visit destinations.
Having received the award for the third time, the hotel now qualifies for nationals, drawing even more attention to the region.
Despite the significant recognition, Mr Kenny said it was still important to him to support the local community.
Aside from employing community members, Tuesday is locals night at the Muse, offering à la carte dining at a 20 per cent discount to those living close to the winery,
“It’s really exciting. We’re fortunate to have a lot of locals working for us, and everyone buys into it, as well,” Mr Kenny said.
“The hard part is working towards the same goal, but we’ve done it for three years now, so hats off to the team.
“It’s good bragging rights for the region.”
The National Accommodation Awards for Excellence will take place in November, where it will be revealed if Mitchelton Hotel’s third time lucky has turned into a fourth.
