And she said based on the number of utes that arrived in Deniliquin as early as last week in anticipation of the massive Muster, we’re in for a bumper weekend.

That of course translates to a equally massive financial boost for the Deniliquin and district economy, she pointed out.

“It has been good to drive through town and see all the utes, and even those stopped in surrounding towns while making their way to Deniliquin,” Mrs Lowry said.

“It goes to show that the event is doing what it was created to do - provide economic stimulus for the entire region.

“We’re also seeing lots of caravans and families.

“We think the crowd will be around the same as last year, which was about 18,000 people.

“That’s an amazing result considering we had an international artist in Brad Paisley last year, and an all Aussie line-up this year.

“And the weather predictions for this weekend couldn’t be better.”

Mrs Lowry said with the interest from trade site holders this year and the long list of around the grounds entertainment, she’s not exactly sure how everyone will get around to see it all in two days.

But she’s sure many will give it a red hot go.

Those who have been in contact with the Deni Ute Muster team are particularly excited about the family friendly activities, especially the ice skating rink, the Lego attraction and the visit from caravan, camping and 4WD legend Craig ’Macca’ McGown.

“We’ve also had a really good response to the show and shine, and we’ve noticed that this year we’ve got a few more tickets sold in the 2710 postcode area.”

While the Muster itself only lasts two days, many extend the party as long as they can.

Large sections of the camping areas were already filled yesterday after gates to the site opened in the morning.

They will be allowed into the festival arena from 8am today.

And of course by the time Muster goers have caught up on their lost sleep on Sunday and head home again, you may as well call it a four day event.

Mrs Lowry said support for the event over the last 25 years has allowed for numerous improvements at the festival site, with more delivered in time for this weekend.

Two new all abilities accessible amenities buildings have been added as permanent fixtures, one with a hydraulic lift and adult changing table.

Bitumen pathways have also been added in relevant areas to make it easier for wheelchairs, as well as an ambulant car park.

A new structure sure to be popular with Musterers this weekend will be the viewing platform at the rodeo arena.

As always, safety is a top priority for the team behind the Muster, with a fully operation operational centre and medical centre available next to the main festival area gate.

Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett said a large contingent of police from the Southern Region - and some from further afield - will be helping to keep patrons and others in the Deniliquin area safe.

“Like every year we have a significant police operation to ensure the Muster is safe and incident free,” Insp Huggett said.

“There will be extra traffic and we urge people to keep that in mind, allow more time for travel and to remain courteous and use some common sense.

“We have drawn police from numerous areas, which includes Riot squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol, licensing, our youth and rural teams.

“We’ll have police on motorbikes and mounted police, and we will have detection dogs.”

Insp Huggett said police operations will not be solely concentrated on the Ute Muster however, with the NSW Police Labor Day traffic operation and the AFL grand final also taking place this weekend.

“We encourage people to use the buses and taxis available to them where possible if drinking, and leave the cars at home.

“Police will be targeting the big five - fatigue, seatbelts, intoxications, impairment and distracted driving.”
