Strathbogie Shire Mayor Scott Jeffery said the revised draft reflected extensive community feedback, technical investigations and recommendations from the community panel.
“The community has played an important role in shaping this strategy and we’ve used that feedback to refine the final draft,” Cr Jeffery said.
“People consistently told us they want growth co-ordinated with infrastructure and services while protecting environmental values and the character of our towns.
“They also shared a range of views about township growth and future housing opportunities.”
The Urban Growth Strategy provides a long-term framework for managing growth across Strathbogie Shire.
It refines township growth boundaries, prioritises development on existing serviced land, reduces previously identified growth areas by infrastructure or environmental constraints and identifies targeted opportunities for future growth in locations including Nagambie and Violet Town.
Cr Jeffery said it was important for residents to understand that adoption of the strategy would not automatically rezone land or approve development.
“The Urban Growth Strategy provides strategic direction for future planning,” he said.
“Any future changes to the planning scheme would be subject to a separate statutory process, including further community consultation and opportunities for public submissions.”
The final draft Urban Growth Strategy is on public exhibition until Monday, October 19.
