Kindergarten services will resume for Katandra West in 2027 after a new lease agreement was made between Greater Shepparton City Council and Goulburn Region Preschool Association.
In August 2025, council announced that services would be suspended in 2026 due to low registration numbers.
This prompted community members to express their concerns about the impacts the loss of the service could have, including difficultly in regaining it and a potential knock-on effect reducing enrolments at Katandra West Primary School.
Once final regulatory and administrative requirements are met, GRPSA will become the operator of Katandra West Kindergarten.
“Katandra West Kindergarten plays an important role in our community, providing local children with access to quality early learning close to home,” Deputy Mayor Geoff Akers said.
GRPSA is a well-established provider that has delivered programs throughout the Goulburn region, including four other sites in Greater Shepparton.
GRPSA chief executive Ronni Druitt thanked council and the Katandra West community for its support.
Community members may begin to see changes to branding and communications associated with the kindergarten.
