To celebrate 150 years of GV Health, the hospital hosted eight tours on June 13 to 14 that gave visitors the rare opportunity to walk through the ever-growing site.
Director of nursing and midwifery education and tour co-ordinator Cathy Scott said the tours helped people visualise the health service’s evolution.
She said the tours encapsulated “where we’ve come from, where we are now, and the vision for the future”.
Around 55 people attended, including former staff, prospective employees and curious community members.
Mrs Scott said it warmed her heart to see how excited potential staff members were to see the breadth of services available.
As a Shepparton local, Mrs Scott has witnessed much of this growth first-hand.
“It’s fairly impressive what’s been done over the years,” she said.
“We are always adapting to the community needs and the community demands.
“Change is a constant.”

Leading visitors through the site, Mrs Scott shared the history of GV Health’s move from Mooroopna to Shepparton and pointed out the many changes that had transformed the hospital over the decades.
The tour took attendees through some of the site’s oldest and newest facilities, from the former midwifery building, opened in 1965, to the recently expanded dialysis unit.
Mrs Scott said many attendees were particularly interested in the hospital’s recent developments.
“We’ve opened up seven theatres now, which has been a huge expansion, and that’s because of the demand from the community,” she said.
“They were very excited to see our new kitchen, and what we’ve done with the old kitchen, which is now all office space.”
The new kitchen, which prepares around 250 meals three times a day, proved another highlight.
As GV Health celebrated 150 years, Mrs Scott said she hoped visitors walked away with a greater appreciation for the scale of the organisation and the work being done to meet demand.
