In October 2024, Goulburn-Murray Water business support planner Ceara Klassen launched ‘Cans for a Cause’.
The collective generosity of Goulburn-Murray Water staff is no mere drop in the bucket.

Firstly, G-MW business support planner Ceara Klassen’s project, ‘Cans for a Cause’, turns discarded cans and bottles into donations for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
“This cause is very close to my heart,” she said.
“A number of my loved ones have been impacted by cancer, including my grandfather, who has passed away.
“I wanted to support the great work the ACRF does.”
That “support” arrived by the bin load.
Since October 2024, Miss Klassen has collected over 1100 items from the recycling bin at G-MW’s Casey St office in Tatura and taken them to her local refund point as part of the Container Deposit Scheme.
Each item earns 10 cents, and every cent goes directly to the ACRF.
And the project could soon expand across the water company.
“I’m working with other G-MW staff members to see whether more ‘Cans for a Cause’ donation bins can be set up at other G-MW offices,” Miss Klassen said.
Secondly, another group of G-MW staff from the Infrastructure Delivery Services division has been rallying behind the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
At a recent goods and services auction, prizes ranged from a car service to a football signed by AFL West Coast Eagles footballer and Tongala export Harley Reid, raising over $2700.
The funds raised will help nearly 70 sick children access Starlight’s hospital programs, including the Starlight Express Rooms and Captain Starlight.
G-MW IDS general manager Alan Shea said the tradition of supporting the foundation was one his team was proud to continue.
“The foundation provides incredible support for seriously ill children and young people,” he said.
“Our goods and services auction has been a great way for staff members to help support the charity.
“We’ll keep providing that support each year through the annual auction event.”
