Greater Shepparton Secondary College art and technology students have seen the fruits of their labour on show under the bright gallery lights at an exhibition of their work in collaboration with renowned local artist Tank.

The exhibition opened on October 16 at Tank’s Art Gallery, where students were able to connect with the wider arts community while their artwork shone on the walls around them.

Students, teachers, parents and community members came together to celebrate the creations — which included drawing, painting, woodwork, sculpture, mixed media and digital art — of more than 40 students from Years 7 to 12.

For many students, it was the first time their work had been framed and displayed in the same manner as professional artists’ and gave them insight into how art is presented and celebrated in a gallery environment.

“Students have grown in confidence and creativity; you can see the shift,” GSSC Art Domain leader Ali Seale said.
Tank said the exhibition gave further purpose to the students’ work.

“I believe it’s essential and deeply motivating for students to have a tangible goal as they create throughout the year,” Tank said.
“It’s a bit like training for football but never getting to play a match; the exhibition is the game day for young artists.”

The exhibition is open until Friday, October 24, at Tank’s Art Gallery, 175–177 Corio St, Shepparton.
The gallery is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
