It all started in 1986, after Mr Campbell bought Kyabram Tyre Service and was introduced to Rotary by the previous owner.
Now, his long-standing commitment to the club has been recognised with a certificate for his service.
Joining rotary requires an introduction and a vocation, and Mr Campbell certainly had both.
A dairy farmer and local businessman, he said rotary offered something different, but also gave him the opportunity to get to know people.
Over the years, Mr Campbell has been at the heart of some of the club’s most memorable fundraising efforts — from manning the van at football events to helping pull together charity auctions.
The rotary van was a well-known fixture at local events, with volunteers serving up coffee and sizzling barbecues to raise funds for the community.
As Mr Campbell remembers, there were times when the demand was greater than expected, including one occasion when they ran out of food.
“It’s the fact of working for the community,” he said when reflecting on what he has enjoyed most about the club.
That commitment has extended to projects supporting organisations including Kyabram District Health Service and Warramunda Village, as well as international initiatives.
He served as Kyabram Rotary president in 2008 and has also watched the club’s Rotary Youth Exchange program flourish over the years.
For Mr Campbell, however, the biggest reward has always been the people, the camaraderie, the friendships and the opportunity to make a difference.
While the projects and people may have changed over the years, what has kept him involved has remained much the same — giving something back to the community he calls home.
