Originally reported as a structure fire, Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW firefighters arrived to find the fire contained to an appliance sitting on the stove top.
As a result, the Mid Murray Rural Fire Service was stood down before arriving on scene.
Deniliquin FRNSW Captain Martin Smith said assistance from Finley FRNSW was also cancelled before it arrived.
Murray River Police District and Deniliquin Ambulance NSW paramedics were also in attendance.
Capt Smith said the Hebbard St fire was called in about 3.20pm Tuesday.
“Upon arrival, we found a piece of cooking equipment left on top of the stove,” he said.
“The heat ignited some paper and once smoke filled the room the resident was alerted to the fire in the kitchen.
“There was minor smoke and heat damage around the stove.”
Firefighters isolated power to the unit and an electrician was called to check the stove.
Deniliquin FRNSW attended with two appliances and crew.
