The Fire Danger Period will finish at 1am on Monday, March 30 in City of Greater Shepparton, Moira Shire and Strathbogie Shire.
CFA District 22 assistant chief fire officer Rohan Taylor said that while the FDP was coming to an end in some areas, it was still important to remain vigilant.
“You must register your burn-offs, check weather conditions and follow local council laws and regulations,” Mr Taylor said.
“You are legally responsible for safe burning all year round; failure to monitor and prevent escapes may result in legal action.
“Registering your burn-off ensures that if somebody reports smoke, the incident will be cross-checked with the burn-off register, which will then prevent volunteer firefighters being taken away from workplaces, families and potentially genuine emergencies.”
Residents planning burn-offs are reminded to notify neighbours, check wind conditions, maintain firebreaks, have equipment and water on hand and never leave fires unattended.
Landowners must register their burn-offs online at firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling Triple Zero Victoria on 1800 668 511.
If your burn-off gets out of control, call 000 immediately.
