Held on consecutive days - Tuesday, August 12 in Barooga and Wednesday, August 13 in Deniliquin - these events invite farmers, land managers, and rural landholders to step onto working farms and explore how revegetation and natural capital principles are being woven into productive agricultural systems.
Each day includes morning tea and lunch, and features a guided walk on farm sites where natural assets, such as sandhills, habitat patches, and wildlife corridors are actively managed alongside crops and livestock.
Participants will hear directly from local growers who are integrating biodiversity into their operations, with benefits that span environmental, economic, and social outcomes.
At the Barooga event, attendees will visit a persimmon farm where a small area has been set aside for re-vegetation.
The farmer will share insights into how working with nature also benefits agriculture.
In Deniliquin, the focus shifts to broadacre cropping, with a local grower showcasing how biodiversity, including species like goannas, are being supported without compromising yield.
Both events will feature presentations and discussions led by Murray Local Land Services and special guest speaker, Jacqueline McArthur.
These will cover topics like:
• What is natural capital?
• Nature-positive farming: principles and practices
• How revegetation contributes to productivity and resilience
• Tools and programs available to support farmers.
These sessions will provide valuable context and practical tools for those looking to enhance their land’s ecological value while maintaining or improving farm performance.
As climate variability and market pressures continue to challenge traditional farming models, these field days offer a refreshing and hopeful perspective - that farming with nature is not only possible, but profitable.
By learning from peers and experts in the field, attendees will leave with actionable ideas for their own properties, whether they’re growing fruit, running livestock, or managing mixed enterprises.
